When I recently saw Lola Montes, I couldn't believe that it's running time is not even 2h. It feels like some 4h+ epic - in a positive meaning. Beautiful sets, stunning costumes, a great musical score, extraordinary camerawork and a script that is sarcastic in a very subtle way and brought to live by unobtrusive acting add up to a truly satisfying cinematic experience. Mr Ophüls and everyone that put their talents into this masterpiece under his guidance deserve credit. Chapeau!
